Future American action film Fast X, commonly known as Fast & Furious 10, is helmed by Louis Leterrier. Dan Mazeau and Justin Lin wrote the screenplay; Mazeau, Lin, and Zach Dean contributed to the story. The movie is the sequel to F9, released in 2021, and will serve as the tenth and second-to-last main installment in the Fast & Furious franchise. It is the eleventh full-length film in the series. The cast of the movie includes Helen Mirren, Charlize Theron, Brie Larson, Rita Moreno, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jason Momoa, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, John Cena, Jason Statham, Sung Kang, Alan Ritchson, Daniela Melchior, and Scott Eastwood. Among the many actors who appear in the movie is Vin Diesel as Dominic Toretto.
Fast X is set to debut in select European countries on May 17, 2023, and in the United States and India on May 19, distributed by Universal Pictures. The film will see Dominic Toretto fighting to protect his team and loved ones from Cipher, who has allied with Dante Reyes, the son of Hernan Reyes, a drug lord seeking retribution for his father’s demise.
The upcoming movie is followed by a sequel, planned as the final chapter of the franchise, which is slated to be released in 2025.
Dominic Toretto, a former criminal and professional street racer, is portrayed by Vin Diesel. With his wife Letty Ortiz and son Brian Marcos, he has retired and established a home. In an interview, Leterrier shared that Fast X will delve into the consequences of Dom’s past actions, and that despite his efforts to protect his family and maintain his faith, there is a price to pay as his enemies come after him.
Letty Ortiz, Dom’s wife and a former criminal turned professional street racer, is portrayed by Michelle Rodriguez. Tyrese Gibson stars as Roman Pearce, an ex-convict and expert street racer who is a member of Dom’s team. Chris “Ludacris” Bridges portrays Tej Parker, a skilled mechanic and technology expert who is also part of Dom’s team.
The character of Dante Reyes, played by Jason Momoa, is the son of drug lord Hernan Reyes, who seeks retribution on Dom and his crew for the death of his father during the events of Fast Five in 2011. Momoa described Dante as Dom’s opposite, with sadistic tendencies and an androgynous appearance. The character has several personal issues, including unresolved daddy issues. Momoa expressed a desire to play against his usual macho image by portraying Dante as a less masculine character, and he performed his own stunts for the film.
Nathalie Emmanuel portrays Ramsey, a skilled computer hacktivist and member of Dom’s team. Emmanuel’s character will be more prominent in Fast X than in earlier movies.
Jordana Brewster stars as Mia Toretto, Dom and Jakob’s sister, and a member of Dom’s team. Mia has settled down with her partner, Brian O’Conner, and their two children.
Jakob Toretto, Dom and Mia’s brother, is portrayed by John Cena. He is a skilled thief, assassin, and high-performance driver who previously served as an agent for Mr. Nobody.
Deckard Shaw, played by Jason Statham, was a previous foe of Dom and his squad before joining after saving Dom’s son. Shaw’s younger brother, Owen, was hospitalized while working for Cipher.
Sung Kang portrays Han Lue, an expert drifter and member of Dom’s team who previously faked his own death.
Alan Ritchson stars as Agent Aimes, the new leader of Mr. Nobody’s agency who does not hold Dom and his crew in high regard.
Daniela Melchior plays the role of Isabel, a Brazilian street racer with a significant connection to Dom’s past.
Scott Eastwood plays the character of Little Nobody, a government law enforcement agent who previously worked under Mr. Nobody.
Dom’s former adversaries Deckard and Owen’s mother, Magdalene “Queenie” Ellmanson-Shaw, is played by Helen Mirren. She also plays MI6 spy Hattie. Mirren drew inspiration for the character from her aunt (who was also nicknamed Queenie) and her performance as Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen (2006).
Which New Vehicles are you going to see in this movie?
Fast X marks the first time that electric cars are featured in the series, including the 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Banshee Concept and the DeLorean Alpha5 with gull-wing doors, both of which were leaked in set photos. Other cars that will appear in the movie are the 2022 TorRed Dodge Charger R/T, the 2023 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye, and the 1970 Charger R/T, which is a regular in the franchise. On June 27, 2022, it was reported that the Veilside Mazda RX-7 FD Fortune, a fan favorite that appeared in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006), will also be included in Fast X.
The first trailer for the movie, released on February 9, 2023, confirmed the presence of the electric Dodge Chargers, including the “Greys of Thunder” Dodge Charger Daytona SRT which was featured in other promotional materials.
A spokesperson for Dodge revealed in an interview with Fox News that the company has a long-standing partnership with the Fast & Furious franchise, which will continue with Fast X. The Lamborghini Gallardo, Alfa Romeo 159, Nissan Silvia, Porsche 911 997 GT3 RS, Datsun 240Z, Chevrolet Impala, El Camino, and 1966 Ford Fairlane are more vehicles anticipated to appear in the film. Each key car depicted on screen required about seven replicas, according to vehicle coordinator Dennis McCarthy, who has worked on every Fast & Furious movie since Tokyo Drift.
This resulted in an estimated 200 cars built to race-car specifications for the stunt work in Fast X. In April 2023, Jason Momoa disclosed that he had spoken with Harley-Davidson CEO Jochen Zeitz directly to obtain six motorcycles for his character to use in the movie. According to Hot Cars, the inclusion of specific vehicles in the Fast & Furious franchise often results in increased overall demand for those cars. For example, after the Datsun 240Z was featured in Tokyo Drift, the average immediate prices for the car in the US increased from $5,000 to $30,000 in 2006.
The lead single from the soundtrack of Fast X, “Let’s Ride”, was released on February 10, 2023, and features YG, Ty Dolla $ign, and Lambo4oe. The soundtrack is expected to have a mix of hip hop, pop, reggaeton, electronic rock, and rhythmic Latin music. On March 8, 2023, it was announced that veteran franchise composer Brian Tyler would be composing the film’s score. The second song from the soundtrack, “Won’t Back Down”, featuring YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Bailey Zimmerman, and Dermot Kennedy, was released on May 4.
Fast X: Fast & Furious 10 Sequel
A sequel to Fast X is currently in development and is planned to be the eleventh and final main installment in the franchise. The decision to end the series was made prior to the development of Fast X, with series star Vin Diesel stating in June 2021 that “every story deserves its ending”. Director Justin Lin also confirmed the two-part finale that September, explaining that it was the best way to conclude the series. In an interview, director Louis Leterrier, who took over from Lin for Fast X, teased that the next film would be “gigantic” in terms of action, scope, and emotion.
In February 2023, Diesel expressed his desire to have Robert Downey Jr. as the main antagonist in the final installment, with the character being developed as the “antithesis of Dom”. Actress Michelle Rodriguez also expressed her wish for Matt Damon to be included in the film. Later that month, Diesel confirmed that the eleventh film would be the final main installment of the series, citing the difficulty of continuing the franchise’s mythologies. In April 2023, Leterrier was announced as the director of the final film, with screenwriters Christina Hodson and Oren Uziel also confirmed. At CinemaCon in late April, Diesel revealed that the final film is set to be released in 2025.
